John E. Wynn is a native of Greensboro, NC, who grew up in the Warnersville Community that was settled by former slaves and freedmen. He grew up a member of the A.M.E. Zion Church since early childhood.

 

He is a graduate of James B. Dudley High and later joined the United States Army where he served several tours of duty. After being honorably discharged during the Vietnam era, he continued a successful career for the Federal Government. John works currently for MM Laboratories in an office manager/supervisor capacity.

 

After nearly 23 years John returned to his hometown, where he resides with his wife of 37 years Kerstin Wynn, who works for Guilford County Schools for the past 25 years in Technology Services. John is the father of two sons Reggie and Brian and has a daughter and future daughter-in-law, Tamia Wynn and Jennifer. Reggie is an educator in social justice curriculum/lead mentor that now resides in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Brian is the Assistant Admissions Director at Livingstone College.

 

John has served as a mentor in B.O.T.S.O., MenTors and the Council of Elders in many capacities. His mission to give back to his community has become an integral part of his being. Being a mentor has allowed him to be instrumental in children’s lives whether it was working with the Literacy programs at G.C.S. Hampton, Foust, Peck and Washington Elementary or serving as a lunch buddy and the Saturday PE/Basketball program. While his children were in public school, John and his wife served on P.T.S.A. and Athletic Booster Club.

 

John is a member of the A.F. & A.M. Carolinian Lodge, Mount Zion Grand Lodge and The United Supreme Council where he held numerous positions from Worshipful to Grand Master. While serving on the various boards and committees, John has always ensured that fundraisers benefited families in need in some capacity.

 

Additional Community involvement included time served as Preacher Stewart, Board of Trustees and President of the Usher Board and volunteering with the Annual Enduring Gratitude benefiting Veterans.

 

Special Interests include spending time and traveling with his family, history, hunting, and collecting coins.

​

Wynn was inducted into the Dudley Hall of Fame/Hall of Distinction in 2019.
