Timothy Ray Bellamy retired as Chief of Police of the Greensboro Police Department in August 2010.  Prior to becoming Chief, Bellamy served law enforcement of several capacities: 1981 -1983 Detention Officer Guilford County Sheriff Department; 1983 - 2010 Greensboro Police Department, served as Patrol Officer, Detective (Vice/Narcotics Detective, Juvenile/Youth/Gang Detective), Patrol Sergeant, Staff Inspections Sergeant, Lieutenant assignments -(Executive Officer - Criminal investigations Division, Personnel Services Division and Patrol Sector; Captain over Patrol Division; Assistant Chief over Patrol Operations; Interim Police Chief  and  2011-2014 Director of Public Safety at North Carolina Central University.

Bellamy earned several degrees and certifications: Elizabeth City State University, Bachelor of Science – Criminal Justice (Manga Cum Laude); University of North Carolina -Greensboro, Master’s Degree Liberal Studies (Manga Cum Laude); FBI National Academy; FBI National Executive Institute; Australia Institute of Government – Sydney, Australia and the Southern Police Institute “Master’s Degree Program – University of Louisville.

Throughout his years in law enforcement Bellamy has been actively involved in various community programs and organizations:  Former Trustee - Board of Trustees at Elizabeth City State University; Former President of the Greater Triad Chapter of Elizabeth City State University National Alumni Association; Former Elizabeth City State University National Alumni Association Board Member;  Vice President of the North State Law Enforcement Officers Association; Hayes Taylor YMCA Annual Campaign;  Salvation Army of Greensboro Board Member; Greensboro Rotary member; Board Member Triad  Health Services and Sickle Cell; City of Greensboro Human Relations Martin Luther King, Jr. Prayer Breakfast; and Board Member Greensboro – Council of Elders Foundation.

Bellamy has also maintained membership in several fraternal organizations: Phi Beta Sigma, Fraternity Incorporated; Grand Inspector General 33rd Degree Prince Hall Affiliation; Greensboro Consistory 106 Prince Hall Affiliation; St. Johns Lodge #12 Prince Hall Mason; and Noble Shriner – Khalif Temple #144.
